Each April thousands of writers lock themselves behind their office doors and congregate in libraries and other various locations to in Script Frenzy. This year I will be among them. This will be my first year participating in this international event. I haven’t written a script since my twins were in diapers and they are teenagers now so I am a bit rusty.
Script Frenzy is hosted by the same organization that host the NaNoWriMo each November. (of which by the way, I am a 2009 winner..ahem, but I digress.) Script Frenzy challenges writers around the world to write a complete first draft screenplay in 30 days. The rules are simple. anyone can participate by signing up online at www.ScriptFrenzy.org. You have to write an original screenplay of at least 100 pages between April 1st, 2010 and 11:59pm April 30th 2010. The script can be a movie script, stage play, novel adaptation, graphic novel or comic book script as long as it is original and 100 pages it flies. So grab your pencil and paper or your computer and get ready to write. Oh yeah, the event is free, well let me be completely honest nothing in life is totally free. The event is run off the donations of wonderful writers like yourself.
Many of you are probably saying “This sounds great, but what’s in it for me?” Well here is the thing, you get the self satisfaction of completing a screenplay in one month. You get a nifty Script Frenzy certificate of completion to print out and proudly display on your wall, and a web icon for your website showing off your screen writing skills. You might even create the next Hollywood blockbuster and become filthy rich and famous. So dust off those screenwriting books, flex your fingers and get ready to write.
